Call for artists!

Artists: There is still time to enter eARTh, our upcoming juried eco-art show! Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners in four categories. Click here to see the downloadable prospectus.

eARTh: An Ecological Art Show

Beginning April 13, 2010 Studio B will host its second annual ecological art exhibit, eARTh. This juried show, which saw a huge artist response in 2009, will officially open with a reception and awards presentation from 5-8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2010.

This is a show of works in all media employing any ecological connection. Anything one can interpret or find inspiration from relating to eARTh or within the realm of eco art is encouraged. Last year’s entries included mixed media collage, glass, fiber, watercolor, and photography.

“It’s a theme that reflects the current mindset of our generation,” said Gallery Director Susan Biebuyck. “It’s impossible for artists not to reflect the thoughts of their generation.”

Michele Byrne and Tara Grim will jury the show. Both women are well-known and admired for the nuance of their art and their skill in capturing the mood of a moment. Both take their inspiration from many environments and people all over the globe. They are committed to making their lives and their art inseparable.

The jurors will select four artists exhibiting Best Landscape, Best Air-scape, Best Water-scape, and Best Recycled Object. All will be considered first prize winners and will be awarded cash prizes.

Liberty Environmental, Inc., a environmental consulting and engineering firm based out of Reading, PA, and Prout’s Jollyview Farm in Oley, PA are proud sponsors of this event.

The show runs through May 17, 2010; the gallery will be open for Earth Day, April 22 from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. For pictures of last year's Terra Firma show, click here.

BASH alunmi show off natural talents

In today’s economy, is a career in the arts truly viable? Three alumni from the Boyertown Area School District are out to prove that the answer is “Yes!” Jade Doskow, Beth Ferraro, and Robert Koch will showcase their work at Studio B, 39 E. Philadelphia Ave. in Boyertown, PA in “Natural Talents II: Alumni Show and Tell” March 19-April 12, 2010.

Doskow will show photographs documenting the rapidly changing waterfront neighborhood of Red Hook, Brooklyn, while Ferraro’s photography captures ordinary corners of life in historic Washington, D.C. Koch’s steel sculptures attempt to create soft, fluid forms from a material known for hardness, rigidity, and lifelessness.

“These young artists who have found their way to careers in the arts will have important insights and stories to share with students who seek to follow in their footsteps,” said Jane Stahl, a former teacher from Boyertown. “I'm hoping that current students will be inspired by the work of these naturally talented alumni of Boyertown Area School District and continue their studies with enthusiasm and hope for their future success in the arts.”

The artists will host two gallery talks for students and adults to provide insight into their work and careers. These talks will take place on Friday, March 19 at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. inside Studio B. The public is also invited to an opening reception from 5-8:00 p.m.

Studio B and the artists would like to thank Susquehanna Bank for their generous monetary support of this exhibit.

“This program is a natural fit for Susquehanna Bank, because it focuses on two key areas of our community support: education and access to the arts,” said Joe Wynands, Branch Manager of Susquehanna Bank’s Boyertown Branch. “We are pleased to be able to support this opportunity for students and others in the community to learn from these artists.”
